2 months old

You are 2 months old today! How is this possible! Time is going much too fast so we are just trying to enjoy every moment with you. You are truly our pride and joy and we love you so much.

Some things about you at 2 months:

  • You are one happy little guy! After your naps you are just all smiles and coos. You are starting to smile at people other than mommy and daddy. We even got you to show off your sweet little grins while video-chatting with Nana and Aunty Amanda yesterday.

  • You've started to do this little pouty-lip. It's so utterly pathetic that everyone snaps to attention and works hard to make you smile again.

  • Your hair is starting to grow back. . .and fast! You started losing your hair around 2-3 weeks, and then after being bald for a while I noticed the tiniest bit of invisible peach fuzz a couple weeks ago. Now your hair is definitely noticeable, about half a centimeter long and light brown.

  • Your eyelashes are getting sooo long. Very dark and curly.

  • We officially packed up all the <7lb clothes last week. And you must have hit a crazy growth spurt because I can tell the newborn size stuff doesn't have much longer either! The other day I put you in the outfit I had planned to bring you home from the hospital in (0-3 month size) and it wanted to fit. . .it really did. . .but I did still have to roll the sleeves up.

  • You will happily drink 4oz of milk if we let you, although you're satisfied after 3.

  • You like to slurp on your fists.

  • Speaking of - your tight little fists are finally starting to open up a little. Up until now I've had to pry them open once a day to scrape the dirt out of them.

  • You are still such a good little sleeper, most of the time. For the last couple weeks you will go to sleep around 9 and will usually sleep until about 2 before you wake up to eat again! Now I just need to learn to sleep that whole time too, I can't imagine the thought of getting 5 hours of sleep!

2 month doctor visit

Zonked out with Daddy after vaccines

Dear Bennett,

Today was your 2 month doctor visit. You know what that means. . .vaccines! At the last minute Daddy chickened out so I had to sit by you during the vaccines. The first one went fine - it was an oral medicine and the nurse said that hopefully you were hungry and would eat it. I told her that shouldn't be a problem. :) Sure enough, you gobbled it up. The shots didn't go nearly as well. The nurse was good and gave you the 3 shots very quickly, but it was so sad to watch your happy face turn to confusion and then you started bawling. It made me want to cry too! We were prepared though - we had brought a bottle of milk so as soon as they put the bandaids on I gave you to daddy and he gave you the bottle. For a second you looked like you couldn't decide if you wanted to keep crying or drink your bottle, but then you quieted right down to take your milk. . .although you made sure to have a very grumpy face the whole time so that we knew you were still upset with us!

Other than that, your visit went very well. You were in a pretty good mood for the doctor. He said you have a nice round head. We were worried we'd have to clip your tongue at this visit (last visit the doctor was worried you were a little tongue-tied) but it was looking much more normal so we didn't have to. Also the doctor prescribed some medicine for your reflux so hopefully you won't be so uncomfortable after meals anymore. The doctor said a couple times that in the next couple months things would get much better so not to sell you on ebay yet. We really didn't know what he meant because you are such a good baby! We have never had a reason to wish you would hurry up and get a little older - we are having so much fun with you just the way you are!

2 month stats:

Weight: 10 lbs (when full of milk and full diaper)

Height: 21 inches

10th percentile for size - you're still just tiny!

6 weeks old

So originally I was only going to do week-by-week updates for the first month, and then after that I was going to back off to doing once-a-month updates. HOWEVER you are still growing and changing so fast that I needed to do another update already to have a record of certain milestones!

Some things about you at 6 weeks old:

  • Still in preemie clothes, but smaller "newborn" size clothing is starting to fit you too. Most newborn size clothing is still too big though.

  • You've started to blow tiny spit bubbles sometimes. Daddy noticed it first. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when you do it. Last night you were throwing a fit and in your distress you started madly blowing spit bubbles as if the faster you did it the faster all your problems would be solved! It was so funny!

  • You smile!!! We started to suspect so a few days ago when your little smirks were becoming entirely too coincidental. You still don't have much control over your smile muscles, but you'll look Mommy and Daddy right in the eye and give a little grin. It's very rewarding.

  • We think you're trying to become a thumb-sucker. Your hand-eye coordination is getting better and you can actually bring your fist to your mouth every so often to suck on it.

  • You took your first "real" nap this week! Up until now I've never been able to let you just cry yourself to sleep (we've tried a couple times. . .but after half an hour I would go get you and rock you to sleep instead) but 2 days ago I put you down and decided to just let you cry, no matter how long it took. You cried for 65 minutes before falling asleep. . .and then woke up 10 minutes later, you little stinker! BUT yesterday I decided to try again and swaddled and put you in your crib - you cried for 20 minutes then fell asleep and slept for over an hour! Huge success! Your next nap was a disaster but we'll keep trying until we have this nap thing down!

Our First Date

So your mom and dad went on our first date (without you) since you've been born. We went and saw Captain America at the little theater down the street (I refused to go any further away from you!) Nana watched you at our house. Apparantly you were a perfect angel for Nana - I fed you right before we left and you slept nearly the whole time we were gone! You were just starting to stir when we got home. So I picked you up to feed you again and within 5 minutes you had spit up and pooped on me, then started to wail miserably. And I still loved being home with you again :)

Blessing Day

We blessed you on August 21, 2011. I am so grateful to have a husband who is worthy to give his son his official baby blessing in the church! It was a beautiful blessing. I was doing fine until your daddy started the blessing and I could tell that he was very emotional - that's when I started crying too! I love seeing how much your daddy loves you!

Close-up of your blessing outfit (although you had white socks and shoes for the actual blessing). We had such plans for your blessing outfit but couldn't find anything we liked in a preemie size! So we finally found these little corduroys and paired it with my favorite shirt of yours and it ended up being very cute!

**Others in your blessing circle were Papa Rutkowski, Grandpa King, Grandpa-Great King, Uncle Carson, Uncle Peter, Uncle Jeevan, our old Bishop Richards.  Uncle Darian, who you are named after, was invited but couldn't come.
