6 weeks old

So originally I was only going to do week-by-week updates for the first month, and then after that I was going to back off to doing once-a-month updates. HOWEVER you are still growing and changing so fast that I needed to do another update already to have a record of certain milestones!

Some things about you at 6 weeks old:

  • Still in preemie clothes, but smaller "newborn" size clothing is starting to fit you too. Most newborn size clothing is still too big though.

  • You've started to blow tiny spit bubbles sometimes. Daddy noticed it first. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when you do it. Last night you were throwing a fit and in your distress you started madly blowing spit bubbles as if the faster you did it the faster all your problems would be solved! It was so funny!

  • You smile!!! We started to suspect so a few days ago when your little smirks were becoming entirely too coincidental. You still don't have much control over your smile muscles, but you'll look Mommy and Daddy right in the eye and give a little grin. It's very rewarding.

  • We think you're trying to become a thumb-sucker. Your hand-eye coordination is getting better and you can actually bring your fist to your mouth every so often to suck on it.

  • You took your first "real" nap this week! Up until now I've never been able to let you just cry yourself to sleep (we've tried a couple times. . .but after half an hour I would go get you and rock you to sleep instead) but 2 days ago I put you down and decided to just let you cry, no matter how long it took. You cried for 65 minutes before falling asleep. . .and then woke up 10 minutes later, you little stinker! BUT yesterday I decided to try again and swaddled and put you in your crib - you cried for 20 minutes then fell asleep and slept for over an hour! Huge success! Your next nap was a disaster but we'll keep trying until we have this nap thing down!
